Panasonic tx-24DX1 Fault switches itself off and on

My Panasonic TX-24DX1 keeps switching itself off and on. It started a while back and at first I thought it was interference from an electronic car key outside (dohhhhh), now it does it all the time. Usually after it switches itself off and on it rectifies itself and I can get a picture but today I cannot keep the picture for more than a minute before funny lines appear and I can hardly see the picture. What could be the fault. I did get an engineer around some time ago and of course it wouldn't do it, I took a digital photo of what the screen looked like, but despite him taking it to bits he couldn't find the fault and said he'd have to take it in and put on the bench. Does anyone know what could be wrong? Thanks

I had this problem too, but thankfully i was able to return mine for an exchange!

There was a problem with the tubes on these sets. Does the picture go bright white before it goes off? if it does then the chances are that you have a faulty tube. Beyond economical repair I would say.
